Vertigo Solutions is seeking an experienced network and systems engineer to join our team.

The successful applicant will have a proven understanding of Microsoft technologies including Hyper-V, VMM, DPM and clustered hardware. In addition the candidate must have a thorough understanding of network protocols and routing including VLANS and L3 managed switches.

Our customers are from many business sectors with a variety of technologies. Microsoft servers sit at the heart of our technologies both on site and at our data centre offerings.

The successful applicant will be responsible supporting this infrastructure both internally and for our clients. The applicant will work within a small team of engineers and must be able to help and encourage the junior members of the team. Driving Licence Essential, 37.5 Hours pw.

Vertigo Solutions Ltd is a local IT service provider offering managed cloud-hosting, business IT consultancy, implementation and support, and line of business application development. A position for a support engineer and assistant systems integrator has become available within the company and we are looking for a friendly, presentable and knowledgeable candidate to join the team. The position offers a £20,000 to £30,000 salary based on experience and qualifications. Also available to the successful candidate would be pension scheme, private medical insurance and a company vehicle. Normal working hours are 9:00 till 17:30 Monday to Friday, however some flexibility will be required.

The responsibilities of the role include:

•Providing telephone and on-site support to customers across a range of IT software and hardware.

•Maintaining required documentation.

•Ensuring customer is kept adequately informed at all times.

•Providing assistance in auditing, analysis, and implementation of IT solutions with an emphasis on Windows Server based solutions.

•Monitoring customer and in-house systems and reacting pro-actively to service alerts.

A candidate must have experience of most or all of the following:

•Installing and administering Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012 or 2012 R2 including experience administering Active Directory

•Administering third party Line-of-Business applications using third party support where necessary.

•Managing small to medium sized business networks with understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, IPSec and wireless networks as well as knowledge of best practices.

•Diagnosing faults in typical application specific protocols:

•HTTP/S

•SMTP

•IMAP4

•POP3

•Server virtualisation using Hyper-V.

•Working in a remote support environment with a need to understand the business impact of every support request raised from a variety of business areas.

•Updating technical notes and logging actions performed.

•Administering and installing printers and print server

A candidate should have one of the following qualifications or be actively working towards them with proof of current progress

•Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)

•Windows Server 2012

•Windows Server 2008

•Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)

•Server Infrastructure

•Desktop Infrastructure

•Private Cloud

•Messaging

•BSc Computer Science or similar

•Other qualifications which cover business IT and/or networking

Useful but non-essential experience of some of the following would be beneficial to the candidate

•Administering Unix based operating systems

•Administering Microsoft Exchange

•Administering and/or installing business telephone systems

•Supporting Apple OSX and iOS devices

•Purchasing and sales processes including selecting appropriate IT products for a requirement

Essential Personal Skills:

•Working hours are typically 9:00AM till 5:30PM Monday to Friday although candidate should be flexible to work around hours due to customer requirements

•Highly motivated with a drive to broaden and deepen their skills and understanding

•Independent problem solving skills in a sometimes stressful environment

•Excellent communication skills in writing, in person and using the telephone

•Full Clean UK/EU Driving Licence
